Moving Out So We Can Move Up – A Change in Address Checklist

Moving is inevitable when your house hacking your way to financial independence. In fact, we predict we’ll have moved a total of seven times before we settle down into our “forever home” a few years from now.

To supercharge our savings rate, The Troop and I are moving in with family for a bit before buying, renovating, and moving into our next house hack. Relocating can be stressful but it’s actually something I enjoy doing. First of all, I love change. Secondly, I see it as a great opportunity to go through old belongings, reminisce over great memories, clean out and get rid of stuff we no longer need, and set ourselves up for a tidy and organized life.

When you think of moving, what comes first to mind is the physical act of packing and lugging all of the stuff, but what shouldn’t be forgotten is the boring administrative task of changing your address. You can have your mail forwarded for the time being but eventually, you’ll need to notify others of your move.

First, forward your mail by changing your address with USPS. It is an easy step by step process that allows you to forward your mail to your new address AND get great coupons and deals to stores that don’t normally give out offers like 10% off at Lowes and Amazon.

Then, take a break from bubble wrapping and running to the store for more boxes, and take a look at the checklist below.
